The Wager, by David Grann

Book club chose this based on reading The Killers of the Flower Moon a couple of years back. It was not as compelling. I kept waiting for it to get to the exciting part and then end, but it never really showed up. That said, I appreciated Grann's research and writing, but I think maybe it didn't have the oomph in the story that he thought it might have had. It hovered on the brink of something amazing and hair-raising. Also, half the book is about the research he did and not the narrative, so it looks a lot longer than it actually is and created a sort of despair amongst those of us who were willing to persevere through to the end.
