The Nature of Fragile Things

The Nature of Fragile Things, by Susan Meissner

This book club read was enjoyable enough to keep reading and finish but not necessarily anything to write home about. I did learn a lot about the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 and its aftermath. I thought the author was very heavy-handed when alluding to a different past for the woman we know as Sophie Whalen. And then it all comes out in one massive go instead of learning about it in snippets throughout the book. I don't know, it just didn't sit right with me. For lovers of historical fiction, the storyline was decent and could be a good break as so much of historical fiction seems to center around the world wars. I did recommend this to my mom, who seems to generally enjoy the genre.
